Portmeirion, a Mediterranean village in North Wales

Have you ever thought about mixing two really good things to get a great one?

Well, Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, renowned Welsh architect, must have thought so before he decided to build Portmeirion, a whole italian-style village in the greenest of the British countries.

The small town, inspired in the italian fishing village of Portfino combines various colourful buildings which evoke the Mediterranean architecture, including different types of columns and even some gods statues! Its central piazza, decorated with numerous species of flowers, completes a perfect harmony.

Although visiting Portmeirion is a paid activity (it is now owned by a charitable trust), it is worth to get inside this amazing village, which takes you to the colorful Mediterranean coast while you can still see the green mountains of Snowdonia.

A good walk along the shore of the beach and the forest is also a must-do activity to fully enjoy the visit.

If only, Sir Clough had brought a little bit of sunshine too…
